Learning Objectives

Students should know that: (a) Living organisms carry out life processes in order to survive; (b) Life processes can be disrupted by disease (intrinsic failures of the organ systems or by infection due to other organisms). Student will be able to: (1) Explain the cause and the effect of disease on the human body; (2) Explain the cause and effect of diseases (e.g. AIDS, cancer, diabetes, hypertension) on the human body; (3) Relate some common diseases to the organisms that cause them; (4) Differentiate between infectious and noninfectious diseases; (5) Explain the role of antibiotics and vaccines in the treatment and prevention of diseases; (6) Explain the role of antibiotics and vaccines in the treatment and prevention of diseases.
